YO MAPS LOST BIOLOGICAL PARENTS!
Elton Mulenga, popularly known as Yo Maps Yo, was born in Kasama. Having lost both biological parents at a young age, Yo Maps never had the opportunity to know his father. He was taken in by adoptive parents who provided for his education and well being. Yo Maps has a sister, Precious, who was taken in by their late father’s younger brother.
Due to uncles’ inability to care for him, Yo Maps was left to fend for himself. Fortunately, he was discovered by Mr Mundia, who recognized his musical talent. Mr Mundia met Yo Maps in Chiyuni, where he began putting songs in memory cards. Impressed by Yo Maps’ potential, Mr Mundia decided to take him under his wing. When the person who had initially taken Yo Maps in had family issues, Mr Mundia stepped in and brought Yo Maps to live with him in Chibombo. There, he introduced Yo Maps to his wife, who would later become a mother figure to the young artist.
Under Mr. Mundia’s guidance, Yo Maps’ music career began to take shape. He started performing in Kabwe, where his first hit song “Njikata Kuboko,” gained popularity. It was during this time that Yo Maps met Dj Kandeke, a radio Dj in Kabwe, who was impressed by his talent. Kandeke had been playing Yo Maps’ songs extensively on the radio, which eventually led to him being let go from his job. However, this didn’t deter Kandeke, who saw great potential in Yo Maps. He collaborated with Yo Maps, and their partnership proved fruitful.
Yo Maps’ big break came when Macky 2, a prominent figure in the Zambian music industry, mentioned his name during a show in Kabwe. Kandeke informed Yo Maps about the mention, and soon after, Yo Maps reached out to Macky 2, sending him his music. Macky 2 was impressed and invited Yo Maps to Lusaka. With the help of Mr Mundia, Yo Maps made the trip and met with Macky 2. After their meeting, Yo Maps’ song “Finally” went viral, and he went on to release hits like “Season yanga.”
