Govt Building KK legacy of Free Education

Government Building on KK’s Legacy of Free Education

Southern Province Education Officer, Oliver Kambuli, says the government is steadfast in building on the legacy and progressive policies of Zambia’s First Republican President, Dr. Kenneth Kaunda.

Speaking during commemorations linked to KK Day, Mr. Kambuli emphasized that one of the most significant policies embraced by the current government is the provision of free education. He noted that the revival of this policy reflects a strong commitment to uphold the vision Dr. Kaunda had for an educated and empowered Zambia.

Mr. Kambuli revealed that since the reintroduction of the free education policy, more than 161,000 pupils, who had previously dropped out due to financial constraints, have returned to school across the Southern Province. He described this development as a milestone in the government’s efforts to not only preserve but also advance the foundational ideals championed by Dr. Kaunda.

He further praised the government for ensuring that education remains accessible to all Zambian children, stating that free education is a powerful tool in promoting equality, reducing poverty, and fostering national development — values that Dr. Kaunda fiercely advocated throughout his leadership.

Mr. Kambuli concluded by urging communities to support government efforts by encouraging every child to take advantage of the free education initiative, adding that a well-educated nation remains the strongest pillar for sustainable growth and national unity.
